Cows are commonly raised as livestock for meat, milk and for hides, which are used to make leather and they are known for regurgitating and re-chewing their food, known as cud chewing. They are often killed before they get very old but may occasionally live as long as 25 years. The oldest recorded cow, Big Bertha, died at the age of 48 in 1993.
